EKOBO designs to do better with less. From the beginning, we want to facilitate eco-gestures in real people’s homes, to save space and offer multi-functional solutions. From the very start, from the first idea, our designs are to simplify life, celebrate beauty, and fight against waste….it begins with the commitment to using eco-responsible and sustainable materials.

RESPONSIBLY-SOURCED BAMBOO

EKOBO chose bamboo because it is one of the most renewable resources on our planet. It has been recorded that bamboo can grow up to one meter per day. It requires no fertilizer, pesticide, or herbicide. A true ecological miracle, this grass regenerates itself without damage to the plant or its environment. Our bamboo is collected as sawdust waste from selected bamboo chopstick factories which are in close proximity to our exclusive partner factory.

Did you know that bamboo is not wood, but a grass?

CORK

Cork production is sustainable due to the fact that the cork tree is not cut down to obtain cork; only the bark is stripped to harvest the cork. The tree continues to live and grow. The cork we’ve used in our designs is a conglomerate. It is made by combining the waste material (cork and dust granules) of industrial cork production and an LFGB approved food-safe resin

OEKO TEX & GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON

We’ve chosen organic cotton for our bath textiles and compostable sponges because it demands far less water than conventional cotton. The main benefit of organic cotton, however, is that the crops aren’t treated with pesticides, insecticides, herbicides nor Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). This raw material is free from toxins that are harmful to farmers, artisans, consumers, and entire wildlife eco-systems.

What Are Oeko-Tex & GOTS Certifications

Oeko-Tex textiles and fabrics are certified to be free of harmful chemicals. The Global Organic Texto Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social responsibility supported by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

RePET

Our various bags are more than just a pretty face. They’re made with RePET which stands for recycled polyester. PET is a strong, durable, highly-recyclable plastic that is used to make soda bottles, water bottles, and food jars. RePET is produced by collecting, sorting, and recycling PET, then refining the material into flakes. Billions of first-generation PET bottles are discarded each year; RePET helps to reduce plastic waste and directly diverts it away from landfills. The production of recycled polyester PET uses 2/3 less energy and about 90% less water than the production of virgin polyester. Using more recycled polyester reduces dependence on petroleum (no new petroleum is required to produce rePET).

PREMIUM, FOOD-GRADE SILICONE

We’ve added silicone tops and details to our range as it’s a flexible, long-lasting, safer alternative to plastic made from an abundant resource. The silicone molecule is comprised of silicon, oxygen, and quartz, which is the most common component of sand. Silicone won’t harden, crack, peel, crumble or become brittle over time, nor does it support the growth of fungus, mold or bacteria. It is non-toxic, odorless -contains no BPA, latex, lead, phthalates, and may be 100% recycled at select locations; non-hazardous waste.
